SYNOPSIS

A documentary portrait of twin sisters who, influenced in their youth by Stalinist-era propaganda about women’s emancipation, began working in the early 1950s at the Katowice company “Transbud,” unloading and transporting bricks. Decades of exhausting physical labor have left them with ruined health, minimal income, and a life defined entirely by work and survival.

Set against a bleak industrial landscape, the film observes their repetitive daily routine and fragments of personal memory, where early hopes are replaced by resignation. Their testimonies are interwoven with ironic archival propaganda from the communist period, exposing the gap between ideological promises and lived reality. The result is a bitter reflection on a life consumed by labor, poverty, and quiet endurance.

The film received numerous international awards, including at festivals in Tampere, Clermont-Ferrand, Paris, Oberhausen, and Krakow.
