Jolanta Marcolla

Jolanta Marcolla is a Polish multimedia artist working with photography, film, and video. She studied painting through individual studies at PWSSP in Wrocław (1970–1974), graduating in 1974.
In the early 1970s she co-founded the experimental collective Galeria Sztuki Aktualnej with Zdzisław Sosnowski, Janusz Haka, and Dobrosław Bagiński. The group explored photographic and film language and new media perception, presenting works at avant-garde events in Poland and abroad (1972–1975), including “Show no. 12” in Wrocław, “Awareness of Possibilities” in Poznań, and “Art and Informatics” in Maastricht. In 1975 her early video work was shown at a festival in Buenos Aires.
Since 1975 Marcolla has pursued an independent practice in photography, video, conceptual art, and artist books, focusing on perception, media structures, and the relationship between image and information.
Her work has been shown internationally, including at Labirynt Gallery in Lublin, CSW Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw, Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, and Rekalde Hall in Bilbao. Archival and experimental works were also presented in “From the Experimental Cinema Archive” (2002–2003) and “Polish Conceptual Photography” (Berlin 2011).
Between 2001 and 2009 she ran the “Living Gallery of Images” in Warsaw, later transforming it into the “Open Studio of Painting and Portrait.” In 2015 she founded the publishing imprint Jedyne Takie, publishing artist books including Wiedźmy i czarownice czyli oswajanie tajemnicy and a children’s book Kim i Ktoś z Nikim (2017).
